Power metal incorporates elements of classical music... Yngwe Malmsteen pioneered that genre by playing the guitar as though it was a violin which then, in turn, became a foundation for today's commercial music. Enter Shikari are an alternative/punk band that incorporates synths and electronic music to their music... Commercial punk sounds nothing like punk, but it is called punk... Even the hardest music borrows from other genres, whether it's style, or inspiration (like I said with Yngwe Malmsteen...)

I aree to an extent... I think in the end, "electronic music" is an umbrella term to cover all things that are primarily made with non-traditional instruments. However, we have genres in place to help us determine what style... We all know when we think "hardcore", what to expect -- if you say "House", you more or less know what to expect when you want to search for others... it breaks down even further, and sometimes it overlaps. :) I don't agree that "just because" it is electronic, it is all the same... that's like saying Vivaldi, Haydn, Des Prez and Correlli are all the same because they are classical.

However, each genre eventually diverges and becomes much different, distinct, and unique from each other. I wouldn't say hardcore and house are the same -- however, I would never discredit (as some people in this topic are) that there is no way one can borrow from the other without "ruining" a genre.

With a synth, it typically makes it sound more "pumping" over the kick... But sidechaining can also be used in other methods. Typically, you see sidechaining of a synth in trance, house, etc... you can also side-chain a hardcore kick or a bassline with a techno/trance kick and end up with something like frenchcore or UK hardcore. Here's an example I've made quickly for demonstration :) The first few bars are with sidechain/ducking, the second part is without any sidechain/ducking, and the third is a hardcore kick sidechained with a techno/trance kick. Hope this helps.

Yeah you' re right. What i would say is that musical roots of electronic music are the same (except for cultural roots, that are a product of the society), so after all it' s not the same thing to say i.e. britney spears influences hardcore equal to house music influences hardcore, 'cause roots are less different than Futurist thinks, i guess.. I think that' s a difference between the history of the electronic music and the chapter of electronic dance music.. so electronic music grew up first of all in post-XIX musicians to include all the theories about atonal (atonal does exist in english?) music, while when we speak about house music and forward, roots are essentially those of electronic dance music. It is the same thing for classical music, we put distances between music played in a century or in another 'cause it' s quite different i.e. music played in middle-age and in renaissance etc.. but when we speak about what we call "classicismo viennese" (Haydn,Mozart, and Beethoven) we know that they' re different each for each other but they begin from the same roots (cultural and musical) so they had influenced each other. I think it' s the same for music from chicago house music to nowadays (oh fuck.. i write in a very bad english, sorry..)

Atonal does exist, and your english is fine. :) I see what you're saying now, and I do agree. :D

I just don't understand why people get so bent out of shape and want to deny another genre entirely because they don't like it. In the punk genre we have the same thing with people -- they'll love an artist, and suddenly when that artist works with another artist they don't like, suddenly fans everywhere scream "SELL OUT!!11" and hate a group just because of that. It's really a selfish, and entitled attitude people have -- where they insist the artist must fall on a sword on behalf of the fans. It's a terribly disgusting mentality.

i think that this fact could be related to the subcultural roots of boys and girls that are involved in. i guess that when we are young we are more closed to these "rules", but as more as we become adults we have to open our mind as more as we can, otherwise it means that years go forward but our mind doesn' t widen

d'n b,breakbeat,hardstyle...insomma.
2)quando ho cercato di avviciarmi all'arte del dj ho iniziato con l'electro e la techno minimal per diversi motivi tipo la disponibilità di tracce estese e i bpm non troppo alti, e infine non per importanza...l'esperienza;
